For all those brave enough to go camping on this rainy weekend, here a few tips to keep you and your group safe while camping in bear country.
1. Check Your Campsite
Check for signs if bears. Look for things like scat, claw marks on nearby trees, fresh digging and tracks.
2. Keep It Clean
Bears have long memories. Your campsite may be clean now, although if a bear received a reward there earlier. It may be back so always be vigilant.
3. No Food In Your Tent
Never take food in your tent. Always store your food in an airtight container and suspend it at least 4 meters above the ground or in the trunk of your vehicles.
4. Never Feed Wildlife
Do not feed any wildlife. This includes squirrels, birds, raccoons and other animals. The feed that attracts them is also a powerful attractant for bears.
5. Listen To The Park Attendants
They have far more experience in dealing with bears than the average visitor. Their goal is to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable camping experiences.
